Is your site invisible to ChatGPT?
Your robots.txt can invite GPTBot in while the service in front of your site quietly turns it away. The file says yes, the door says no, and nothing in a normal SEO audit will ever show you the difference.
We know because it happened to us. On 22 September our own domain was returning 403 to GPTBot and ClaudeBot — from a Cloudflare default we had never touched — while our robots.txt welcomed them in 177 lines. An AI-visibility product, invisible to two of the engines it measures. This check is what would have caught it.
Why this is separate from the full audit
This check answers one question: can the AI engines physically read your site? That is the floor. If the answer is no, nothing else about your AI visibility matters yet — fix the door first, and it is usually a ten-minute settings change.
The audit answers the harder question: when a buyer asks AI about your category, whose name comes back? That needs real questions put to real engines, and it is what we charge for.
Keeping them separate is deliberate. This one costs us nothing to run, so it stays free for everyone, forever, whether or not you ever buy anything.
